Price Schedule and Policy
All work is done on a first come first served basis. For this reason I ask that you email or preferably call me first to discuss the general scope of the work and appropriate scheduling.
I sell no parts. Certain parts can be ordered by you before I receive your engine. Other parts which are dimensionally related cannot be ordered until certain work is done. For instance, it is impossible to order pistons until the clean-up size of the cylinder has been determined; likewise connecting rod crank-end diameter cannot be determined until after the crankshaft is reground. When these dimensions are known I will advise you with ordering information. By ordering your own parts from the Model T vendor of your choice you save money by eliminating the middle man (me). When you order the parts , have them drop-shipped to my shop or you can re-ship them to me when you receive them.
Turn-around time on engine short or long blocks varies with certain factors such as: parts needed for the rebuild which are not usable (i.e. a crank shaft that fails the magna-flux test) or a vendor who is out of some particular part such as certain size piston or rings etc. I will thoroughly discuss these problems with you if they occur. Usually I have been able to locate replacement parts or help you to do so. We will be on the phone together in order to solve these kinds of problems if they exist. The average cost of parts from any of the several Model T Ford suppliers is about nine hundred and fifty dollars if your old cam-shaft is reusable. Other issues such cracks in block that need to be repaired etc. will be dealt with on an individual basis and then only after a thorough and frank discussion of time and cost with you. I’m not a corporation and you will not be treated as though you were dealing with one. We both own and drive Model T’s.
TURN-AROUND TIME, if everything is planned and scheduled ahead, can be as little as two-weeks from when I receive your engine and the appropriate and necessary parts and there in no other work ahead of yours.( I deal on a strict first come first served basis.) That is, however, an ideal situation. Everything must coordinate. If we plan ahead so that I can deal with the magnafluxing of the block and crank and take care of the crank grinding whilst we wait for the rest of the parts; one month is possible. A more practical and usual time period is two month because of the time it takes to get everything back from cleaning, crankshaft grinding, etc.. This is a very “doable” time frame and has been normal in my experience.
We will thoroughly review your requirements and the approximate turn-around time when we discuss your order.
PRICE–As stated before, I sell no parts. Prices are based on my experience in average labor time. They do not vary unless extra work (such as porting and polishing, crack repairs, broken studs, custom modifications etc.) is required. I will notify you before performing any such work in order to obtain your permission.
Disassembly-- I recommend that you disassemble your engine yourself as it will help familiarize you with the parts and working of the power plant. If you have a local shop that will hot-tank, pressure wash, and acid dip your block, transmission drums, flywheel (magnets must be removed to clean properly) , and other parts you will save waiting time at this end. If not, I will disassemble ($350 minimum) and have the cleaning work done in Reno at the same shop that will be re-grinding your crankshaft. Their work is excellent and the parts come out looking like new "green" iron.
Short Block– $1550.00-$1850.00 (dependent on labor time)
Rebuild Transmission– $850-$1050 dependent on labor involved.
Rebuilt and Precision Align-Assembled engine/transmission/pan unit– $2450.00 (does not include carburetor, generator, starter, or manifolds. These prices are for disassembled, cleaned, magnafluxed block/parts and magnafluxed and ground crankshaft.
Pan Testing/ straightening– $50.00 minimum for testing and one hour of straightening if necessary.
Alter Model T block for insert bearings for use with new SCAT crankshaft.. (altered crank is 1.5” or 1.625” mains. Rods vary as to clean-up size does not include price of new cast iron main caps or the inserts– $850.00
Repair/straighten and regrind transmission shaft– $80.00 (this is a must when rebuilding and precision aligning
engine, transmission, and pan assembly. (New transmission shafts are now available) NOTE: reground transmission shaft requires custom sized bushings in the brake drum.
Items such as rebuilt rear axle, differential, and driveline depend on the condition of the assembly when dismantled.
Some items may be reusable such as ring gear and pinion but it may be advisable when the labor has been invested to disassemble the entire unit to replace such items anyway. Prices vary according to the amount of labor involved. You will be consulted at each step of the process.
